FairPensions Trustee Board

FairPensions is seeking a trustee to join our board.

We are especially looking for an individual with knowledge and/or experience of fund management, as well as a commitment to FairPensions' aims, to join our board. The board oversees and advises on the work of the FairPensions staff team. Existing board members include individuals with backgrounds in responsible investment, investment consulting, NGOs, trades unions, trustee bodies and the law. Board meetings are quarterly, usually in office hours, with an annual AGM. Trustee appointments are unpaid. To submit your CV, or to enquire about the role, please email info@fairpensions.org.uk

Stephen Hine, Chair of Trustees

Head of International Relations, Ethical Investment Research Services (EIRIS). Stephen represents EIRIS on a steering committee working on the Voluntary Quality Standard for Corporate Sustainability and Responsible Research, set up by independent SRI research groups in Europe. He is treasurer of the Association for Independent Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Research.

Stuart Bell

Director of Ergon Associates. Stuart is a founding partner of Ergon Associates, which provides advice on international labour rights issues. Prior to this, he was Research Director at Pensions & Investment Research Consultants Ltd (PIRC) for 12 years, advising pension funds and investment managers on socially responsible investment strategies, corporate governance and shareholder activism. He currently serves on the board of PIRC.

Sam Clarke

Sam worked for many years in Oxfam, ending as fundraising director before taking up the leadership of Oxfordshire Mind and later the World University Service. He has been on the board of the Refugee Council and Friends of the Earth (as chairman). Sam is currently chair of Friends of the Earth in Ireland, a founder and chair of Stop Climate Chaos, a trustee of Employment for the Disabled and a director of the Oxford-based disability support organisation Able Types Ltd. He is also chair of the Ethical Property Foundation.

Jennifer Morgan

Sustainable Business Manager for Global Finance at WWF. Jen is responsible for developing WWF's programme of work that engages the finance sector for transformational change. For the past 10 years, she has held roles in the commercial world both in the UK and in the US. Jen is also a Steering Commitee Member of BankTrack - a coalition of NGOs engaging with the global banking sector.

Dai Davies

Head of Publications for the UK's biggest private sector trade union, Unite (Amicus section). Previously, he was Director of Communications for UNIFI. Dai is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Fellow of the British Association of Communicators in Business.

Bernie Doeser

Formerly a member nominated trustee on the board of the Shell Contributory Pension Fund (assets under management of approximately 10 billion pounds) Bernie started his career as a research scientist working for Chloride, but became heavily involved in IT during the 1970's switching career in 1980. Bernie worked in the IT division of Shell for 25 years, until his retirement in 2005.

Tim Valentine

Professor of Psychology, Goldsmiths, University of London. Tim was appointed to this post in 1997 having previously held academic posts at the Universities of Manchester and Durham. Tim Valentine is also a director of Valentine Moore Associates Ltd.

Paul Watchman

Partner, LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae. Paul Watchman is the author of the groundbreaking Freshfields legal opinion on the responsibilities of institutional investors, "A legal framework for the integration of environmental, social and governance issues into institutional investment". He has a wide ranging practice in primarily non-contentious environmental planning and regulation (public law). Practicing law for more than 30 years, he has represented a large number of industrial conglomerates in selling and buying businesses around the globe.
