Trade Union Affiliation
Right now, people are fighting against mining companies who are contaminating their land and water, evicting communities and using the military to suppress their protests; other major corporations are supplying weapons to oppressive regimes or using child labour in their supply chain; while in the UK many workers have had their rights ignored and their attempts to unionise suppressed.
These companies, and others like them, are financed by ordinary people through their pensions. Almost all pensions funds, including some with 'ethical investment' options, make no effort to challenge the companies they invest in.
Fair Pensions is changing this by persuading pension funds to use their shareholder power to improve the behaviour of the companies they own. UK pension funds are worth 860 billion pounds, equivalent to five times the annual export earnings for the whole of Africa. This makes them powerful enough to change corporate behaviour towards society and the environment.
FairPensions works with UK trade unions, whose members are affected by the decisions of major companies every day - whether it's their level of pay or the quality of air they breathe.
