Information for Pension Funds
The Unearth Justice campaign on mining and investors is likely to involve individual CAFOD and FairPensions supporters contacting their pension funds by e-mail. CAFOD and their supporters are concerned to know whether the business risks that can stem from poor mining practices are being assessed and addressed to protect long term shareholder value.
We are therefore asking pension funds to let us know what steps are being taken to ensure that mining companies in their portfolio are assessing and addressing the issues and risks identified in the attached briefings (or to ensure that fund managers are dealing with these risks on the funds' behalf).
We understand that many pension funds will not have had occasion to discuss these specific issues with mining companies or fund managers, and we have therefore created an example enquiry letter which you may find useful.
