Our Team

We are proud of our dynamic staff team at FairPensions, which comprises a committed group of individuals with impressive credentials and a diverse and complementary range of experience.

Overseeing our staff team is our Board of Trustees.  We are also supported by a dedicated number of volunteers.


Catherine Howarth, CEO

Catherine joined FairPensions in July 2008, having previously been Director of West London Citizens. Earlier in her career she was Senior Researcher at the New Policy Institute.

Catherine holds a First Class BA in Modern History from Oxford University and an MSc in Industrial Relations from the London School of Economics.

Catherine is a Member Nominated Trustee at The Pensions Trust (the multi-employer pension scheme for the UK's not-for-profit sector). She serves on The Pensions Trust's Investment Committee.

In June 2011 Catherine was named a 'Rising Star of Corporate Governance' by Yale University's, Millstein Center. In late 2010, Pensions Insight featured her as one of the 50 most influential people in pensions and in May 2011 Investment and Pensions Europe called her one of the 'top ten women in pensions'.

Louise Rouse, Director of Engagement

Louise joined FairPensions in September 2009. She leads on engagement with investors and listed companies, and is also responsible for the organisation's annual research surveys of asset owners and asset managers. Prior to joining FairPensions she worked as a finance lawyer at Arthur Cox, solicitors in Dublin. Louise served a two year term as an elected member of the Council of the Law Society of Ireland and is a member of the CCBE (Association of European Bar Associations) committee on corporate social responsibility. Louise holds a First Class B. Corp. Law and a First Class LLB from the National University of Ireland, Galway and an LLM from University College Dublin.

Christine Berry, Policy Officer

Christine joined FairPensions in March 2010, having previously worked as a parliamentary researcher. She has also overseen a variety of environmental and investment-related campaigns. Christine holds a First Class BA in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge.

Matthew Butcher, Media and Communications Officer

Matthew joined FairPensions in January 2011. He has previosuly worked as a community worker in Nottingham, for Nottingham University Students Union and as a volunteer press and publicity officer for a number of organisations. He holds a BA in Geography from The University of Nottingham.
